We left early for our journey north to the Hunter Valley. Colin had reccomended a route thru some National Parks, just casually mentioning a dirt road. It turns out the road involved a steep switchbacked goat path with drop offs 300 feet or more. Oh Joy. We were negotiating one turn and Jane points out some wrecked cars at the bottom of the valley!

The Convict Road is about to start               Leaving Wisemans Ferry   A Jacaranda Tree   A dam on a farm near Webbs Creek   At first, we didn't think it was too bad, it was just an unsurfaced road               35 Km of dirt road, that eventually turned into soft gravel with 300 ft. drop offs on the switchbacks   Oh, great, and we have to watch out for wildlife!   The Great North Road was built, by convict labour often working in irons, between 1826 and 1836 to connect Sydney with the Upper Hunter Valley   Ahh, pavement.
